About Tarangire Nature Camp

Tarangire Nature Camp is a boutique safari retreat set along the banks of the Tarangire River, in the northern sector of Tarangire National Park. Surrounded by ancient baobab trees and overlooking a stretch of river that draws vast herds of elephants during the dry season, our camp offers one of the most visually stunning and wildlife-rich settings in East Africa.

Our Location

The camp is perched on an elevated ridge above a bend in the Tarangire River, providing unobstructed views of the flood plain below and the baobab-studded woodland that stretches to the distant Kondoa Escarpment. Tarangire National Park covers 2,850 square kilometres of rolling terrain, but our northern sector position gives us excellent access to the park's prime wildlife areas, including the river itself, the surrounding grasslands where lion prides hunt, and the dense woodland where leopards and lesser kudu can be found. The park is just two hours from Arusha by road, making us one of the most accessible camps on the northern circuit.

The Camp

Our guest tents are elevated canvas-and-timber structures positioned along the riverbank, each with en-suite bathrooms, hot bucket showers, solar lighting, and a private wooden deck. The communal area centres on an open-sided dining banda and a comfortable lounge, both overlooking the river. A stone-ringed campfire circle is the gathering point after dinner. The camp is unfenced, and elephants are regular visitors — they pass through the camp grounds on their daily movements between feeding areas and the river, offering encounters that no game drive can match.

Our Guides

Our Tarangire guides are among the most knowledgeable in the park. Led by head guide Samuel, who has spent over a decade exploring every corner of Tarangire, the team includes specialist birding guides capable of identifying over 400 species by call alone, and bush walk leaders with deep knowledge of the baobab woodland ecology. Many of our guides come from Maasai and Mbulu communities surrounding the park and bring a cultural perspective to the safari experience that enriches every outing. They know the elephant families by name, the trees where leopards rest, and the swamp edges where rare species like African wild dog and gerenuk can be found.

Our Story

Tarangire Nature Camp was founded by a team that fell in love with a specific quality of this place — the profound sense of timelessness that the ancient baobab landscape inspires, the gentleness of the elephants that wander through camp, and the quieter, deeper safari experience that Tarangire delivers compared to the more visited parks. We built the camp to share this experience with travellers who value authenticity over luxury, and the sounds of the bush over the hum of air conditioning. Everything we do is guided by respect — for the landscape, for the wildlife, for the communities around us, and for the guests who trust us with their time.
